Lenno
Lenno, a town of Roman origins, is located on the western shore of Lake Como, nestled in a deep inlet that enters between the Lavedo promontory and the Portizza tip, in an area named for its beauty by Cardinal Durini, in the 17th century, “Gulf of Venus”. At Lenno it is possible to admire some important and splendid villas. Among these are the Villa del Balbianello, the Villa Monastero and the Villa Aureggi. Villa Monastero, probably built where some military buildings linked to the fortifications of the Comacina Island stood, is located in the area which, from 1209-1211 to 1786, hosted a Benedictine convent coming from the monastery of Saints Faustino and Giovita, formerly located on the island.
